USD? Couldn’t you just buy a really nice RV and live down by the river?

Looks nice, but it hurts my brain to spend that kind of money on 1000sq ft. We got 2700 sq ft on a acre of land for $250k.

Looks like a good bit of cool stuff near by though.

my 1,125 sq. ft. condo (with garage) was bought for $70,000.

is the one you’re looking at furnished?

If you can afford it. Looks like a nice place.

Also it makes me think when in school Americans were taught to use commas to separate the Thousands, millions, billions, etc. and other countries use periods, where we use the periods after the dollars for cents.

This is smack dab in the middle of the city. São Paulo real estate is quite similar to NYC real estate in quite some ways.

Yes, furnished. I would get a garage spot with this, but only one.

If I manage to sell the current apartment at the price I want to sell it, I could cover the new apartment and possibly another garage spot.

Underground, most buildings here have underground garages, even the very old ones.

In the bay area it costs 800k for a 1100 sq ft house with a 6k sq ft lot. I’m quite jealous that you can get 2700 sq ft for 250k.

I’m not very knowledgable on Brzilian real estate but the apartment looks to be in good shape. And based on your watch collection and food posts I’d guess you’re doing quite well so I say if you can afford it then you should get it.

When I was looking for my first house I had to consider payments and make sure I wasn’t “House Poor” as we call it. Where you can afford the house, but not much else.

I’ve made some real estate mistakes, but I think I’m alright now. I think I have around $35,000 USD equity in my current house even though I have a loan to pay difference from my first house.

“São Paulo real estate is quite similar to NYC real estate in quite some ways.”

That’s fucking insane seeing as the per capita income of NYC is about double that of São Paulo.

And that’s why some places in São Paulo look like this:

This is the right way to do it. My area is a cesspool with tons of places without garages. You’d think that would be more common where I used to live, but no, they have garages in most places in a place where it rarely rains. Even in apartments!

I can’t believe how much rents have gone up - the last apartment we had went for $850 a month, now it’s going for $2300....

Here in Vancouver, that would be well into the seven-figure territory (which works out to 900k USD or so), even out in the suburbs. Plus, our wages aren’t adjusted to match...

Kinja'd!!! Spasoje > My citroen won't start

If that was in Vancouver, it would be at least 800k CAD, if not over 1m CAD, so...buy it?

It’s super pretty. I liked having concrete floors, FWIW. Not as visually warm as wood, but very easy to take care of. Also love the bookshelves.

The shared garage is nice, although I’ve been really, really wanting a private garage where I can work on stuff and keep parts out of my living room.

Bonus points for the bunny watermark. Bunny!

Good grief. I wasn’t aware Vancouver had real estate like that. Is it just less available land causing that?

Kinja'd!!! Spasoje > AddictedToM3s - Drives a GC

Not really. While there is an inherent cap on developable land, we’re not even close to using it all up. If you’re cool with living somewhat further away from the downtown core, you can still buy a place w/o getting into a bidding war, or even buy some acreage.

But look at anything even remotely central, and you’ll have to battle with an endless stream of obscenely wealthy Chinese nationals (“foreign investors,” as people call them), looking to park their money outside of China...

Back in the 80s, it was vogue for Vancouverites to vacation in the Bahamas and basically live like kings for like three bucks a day. People realized that they could just buy property down there for next to nothing. When they tried, the local gov’ts said no, stating that they would throw off the housing market and make it unaffordable for the people who actually live there.

Trouble is, Canada doesn’t have such a policy. Instead, we have a gov’t (at least in BC/Vancouver) greedy enough to allow these “foreign investors” completely unrestricted access, at the expense of everyone who actually lives here. 10 years into this mess, and now even lawyers and doctors can’t afford a house!

The cherry on top: compare the number of existing housing units right now to the number of households/people who actually live here, and you’ll see a handsome housing surplus! However, the “foreign investors” are taking the lion’s share of these units off the market.

So it’s a supply problem only on paper – were Canada as forward-thinking as those random Caribbean nations were 30 years ago, we wouldn’t have this problem.

(sorry for the wall of text, it’s as short as I could make it hehe)

You’d be paying more than three grand permeter, thats a good amount of money for an apartment.

But if it’s in a very fancy part of a Latin American city its an understandable price. Those tend to be good investments so I’d run the numbers in your particular area and if they add up, you might aswel indulge yourself
